Looking Forward to 2013

Safety Harbor Moving Forward

Things I would like to see come through in 2013:

During my campaign, I advocated for a Christmas Boat Parade. The other day I stopped at Philippe Park and walked to the water’s edge. I envisioned people lining the shore watching decorated boats sailing and motoring by. It would be perfect, and I bet we can get a nice group of boat owners to participate. It could start in Oldsmar, wind around and circle back at the Courtney Campbell. I think it would a super ending to the day we have our Holiday Parade. Need to start planning as early as possible.

Another goofy idea came to me at the British Car Show - why not have a Classic Muscle Car Show? There are car clubs that I am sure would enjoy having their members show off their rides. A few GTO’s, some 442’s and 57’ Chevy’s.

I have wondered for years why we don’t have a “First Night” celebration. More of a party then a commercial event. Of course our brick and mortar businesses can stay open, but leave the street for dancing and socializing, not Kettle Corn and Jewelry kiosks. I know everyone wants to make a buck but can we have one festival without being plied by hucksters? Safety Harbor is famous for our festivals, but in reality I think they have morphed into more of a bazaar then a celebration.

Of course where do we start, how do we get it put together? I assume we have to start at the City. So look for Bobby to be at the podium hawking his fruit loopy ideas at a Commission meeting sometime soon.

Not before the Firmenich boondoggle is done.

I have some ideas for getting a weekly communiy activity going.. and I don't think we would have to start with the City. I am new to Safety Harbor, so my idea could be out of bounds, but I would at least like to talk about it. You seem like the right person. Can we talk?

I love boat parades but there is no water in this area of the bay. We run aground at high tide! It is a shame because is would be a lot of fun. Also December has the lowest tides.

I love the ideas, especially the muscle car show! However, it sounds as if you look negatively upon the vendors who frequent the 3rd Friday event. I have been a vendor at 3rd Friday since 2008 and I adore Safety Harbor. Being a vendor takes a lot of hard work, dedication and self discipline. It is like any other business, just my store moves around with me. I don't know about other vendors but I have never "plied" anyone. I set up my store, I am professional and courteous if anyone comes in and I display the work that I work over 80 hours a week hand making. I too love Safety Harbor and would hate to feel as if I am truly just a thorn in the side of this great city??

Sorry if my comments about vendors upset you. I did say everyone should be able to make a buck. I just have seen 3rd Friday morph into something from what it once was. I am pro business and touted that fact during my campaign. Maybe “plied by hucksters” is a bit strong and for that I apologize. Believe me I’ll let you know when you’re a thorn in “my” side. Is Bobby old and crotchety? Nope, I’m just outspoken

Outspoken for sure, but I think old and crotchety may slowly be creeping in. :) I hope you have a great day. :)
