5 Things You Need to Know on the 1st Day of School
Information you can use on this first day of classes.
While school children throughout Pasco County likely hoped this day would never come, the first day of classes is officially upon us. Whether you’re sending off your child for the very first time or your kids are in high school, there are things you need to know to make sure today’s a great one.
Here are five items you might want to consider today:
- Pasco deputies will be out in full force – When the buses hit the streets, so do Pasco County’s finest. Sheriff Chris Nocco says that “proactive patrols” will be out and about in school zones and keeping an eye on bus stops. “"We want to provide a safe environment for kids going to and from school," Nocco said in a media release. "I'm asking everyone to keep an eye out for kids (this) week as they get used to their school routine."
- Those bus tags are important – Parents new to Pasco County schools might not understand the importance of the little stickers elementary-aged children are asked to carry on their backpacks. These stickers are meant to help bus drivers make sure they have the right students loaded before they pull out in the afternoons to bring them home. Make sure to keep these on your kids’ backpacks for at least a week or two.
- Your school can help if your child doesn’t get off the bus – At some point during the first week or two, there will be a child who doesn’t get off the bus at the right stop or happens to get on the wrong bus. If this child turns out to be yours (it’s happened to mine), don’t panic. Just call your child’s school directly and let them know. School office staff can contact bus drivers immediately to help locate your child and make the reunion a swift one.
- You can find out more about your children’s schools online – The Pasco County district website serves as a portal to all individual school websites. Each site offers a bounty of information parents can use, including contact information, upcoming events, rules for the year and more. Visit the district site online at pasco.k12.fl.us.
- You can pay for lunches online – Forgot to send them off today without lunch money? Get an online account with MyLunchMoney.com and you’ll never have to worry about this again.
