Alert Daycare: Some Pasco School Start Times Will Change For 2013-14

Luckily for Land O' Lakes parents, their community will not be affected. The school board is making the changes to save $800,000 in the 2013-14 budget.

The School Board of Pasco County has voted to change some school start times in an effort to save some $800,000 for the 2013-14 school year.

Luckily for Land O’ Lakes parents, no schools in their community will be impacted.

Officials on Tuesday (July 23) introduced a proposed $1.05 billion budget. The first public hearing on the spending plan will be 6 p.m. July 30, with a final hearing and voted slated for Sept. 17.

“We have been facing and still are …. about a $26 million budget shortfall so we were looking at areas we needed to make adjustments to save some dollars to plug that budget hole,” Superintendent Kurt Browning said.

One of those methods includes changing start and end times at eight schools to streamline and consolidate bus lines. District spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said the measure — unanimously voted upon by board members — eliminates the need for 30 buses in the district.
