Pasco Schools Enjoyed Relatively Smooth 1st Day

Only a few bumps in the road were reported.

While there was a bump or two along the way, Pasco County School District officials are saying the first day of classes Aug. 22 went smoothly overall.

“We have been fortunate to have a smooth start to the 2011-2012 school year,” wrote district spokeswoman Summer Romagnoli in an email. “No problems have been reported.”

Romagnoli’s reports were mostly echoed by Land O’ Lakes Patch readers.

“We have three (children) in Connerton,” wrote Jen Rivera on the Patch Facebook page. “(It) went better than I expected! A lot going on but it was as organized as possible.”

“Wonderful,” wrote Corena Lambert in regard to the drop-off process at Oakstead Elementary School.

There were a few issues reported here and there.

“I had mine take the bus ... or at least I tried,” wrote Bobbi Jo Lowery. “My first-grader cried because this is her first year without big sister at the same school. (I) had to drive my sixth-grader because the bus (to Rushe) never showed up. But it was nice having the extra time with her.”

Lowery later reported that the school district was working on finding out what happened to the bus.

Another Patch reader reported seeing a bus in a ditch. Some late buses were also reported in the afternoon.

A roundup of first-day trials and tribulations wasn’t immediately available and neither was an enrollment number for the district as a whole.

Official enrollment numbers are expected soon.
