Controversial Staff Changes, Connerton Issues on Tap at Tonight's Meeting

Recommendations and re-appointments—at least one controversial—are on Tuesday's 6 p.m. meeting agenda.

 

Facing its fifth consecutive year of budget shortfalls, ,  the Pasco County School District began cutting teachers and staff positions earlier this month. 

Now, administrative recommendations and re-appointments are on the board's agenda for tonight's meeting, and at least one has stirred up controversy.

Amelia Van Name Larson, who has overseen the district's Response to Intervention program, is recommended for appointment as a vice principal, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Board member Allen Altman questioned why Fiorentino would seek to displace someone with her strong reputation, recently telling the Times that he would seek more explanations at tonight's board meeting.

Parents calling for the removal of Ana Falcone as principal of Connerton Elementary are also expected to speak at tonight's board meeting.

The Pasco County School Board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 at the District Office complex, building #3 North, 7205 Land O’ Lakes Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
