The event takes place Aug. 25 at Rasmussen College in Land O' Lakes, and about 30 employers will be there.

Looking for a job?

Rasmussen College in Land O’ Lakes just might be able to help. The brand new campus is gearing up to host its first-ever community career fair Thursday, Aug. 25.

“(We’ll have) around 30 employers — all hiring,” said Sheila Stiles, the career services adviser for both the Land O’ Lakes and New Port Richey Rasmussen campuses.

Rasmussen College has a tradition of hosting twice-yearly career fairs, Stiles said. Since the Land O’ Lakes campus just opened, it was decided to bring students, jobseekers from the community and potential employers together at the 18600 Fernview St. campus.

The fair will be set up inside one of Rasmussen’s classrooms. Employers such as Brighthouse, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, Wells Fargo, The Homecare Team, SunTrust Bank and more will be on hand.

Since every employer attending has open positions, Stiles said jobseekers should come prepared to interview. The college is setting up an area where employers who desire to do so can interview on the spot.

Today’s jobseekers, Stiles said, have to take a different approach than those in years past.

“They really have to be prepared,” Stiles said. “Whatever company they want to work for, they really need to research that company.”

Understanding some of the ins and outs of a particular firm will help potential employees get past one of the most important interview questions, Stiles said. Many employers, she said, tell her they’re concerned when people who are up for a job don’t take advantage of the time at the end of an interview to ask questions about a company.

“They never ask questions,” she said. “If they really can’t come up with a question (ask) for a walkthrough of what a typical day would be like.”

Tomorrow’s career fair starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m. Anyone looking for a job is welcome to attend. Stiles recommends people come dressed for interviews and have resumes with them. Rasmussen staff will also be available to review resumes to help jobseekers make improvements to these documents.
