What's Up In Area Schools?

Trying to keep up with school calendars can be tough for busy parents. To help you out, we’ve put it all in one place. Here’s a look at events and activities taking place in schools in the Land O’ Lakes area Feb. 14-18:

• Academy at the Lakes, 2220 Collier Pky. – The middle division’s girl’s track team travels to Berkeley Prep for a meet Feb. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. The Day of Manners is Feb. 17 and the middle division’s boys track team meets against Berkeley Prep from 4 to 6 p.m.  
• Land O’ Lakes Christian School, 5105 School Rd. – The boys junior variety basketball team plays Eastland away in the playoffs. The away game is set for 4:30 p.m. Feb. 15. The basketball semi-finals and state championship are scheduled for Feb. 17 and Feb. 19, respectively.
• Connerton Elementary, 9300 Flourish Dr. – Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Night is set for Feb. 16 and the Triumph Team Concert is Feb. 17. Yearbooks can be ordered now with a deadline of March 15.
• Denham Oaks Elementary, 1422 Oak Grove Blvd. – The SAC meets Feb. 15 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Market Day pick-up is set for Feb. 17.  The Student of the Month breakfast is planned for Feb. 18. The school is also accepting donations of old VCRs, iPods and Nanos are being accepted.
• Lake Myrtle, 22844 Weeks Blvd. – Rockin’ Writers recognition begins at 9:15 a.m. Feb. 18.
• Oakstead Elementary, 19925 Lake Patience Rd. – Spring Picture Day is set for Feb. 15 as is Tijuana Flats Night. Student of the Month recognition is set for Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. Authors’ Spotlight is Feb. 17 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the cafeteria. Green Spirit Day is all day Feb. 18.
• Pine View Elementary, 5333 Parkway Blvd. – McDonald’s Night is Feb. 16. On Feb. 18, the School Social for grades two through five is set for 6 to 8:30 p.m.
• Charles S. Rushe Middle, 18654 Mentmore Blvd. – The Drama Club meets Feb. 14 from 3 to 5:15 p.m. and the boys’ basketball team plays Stewart Middle School. On Feb. 15, the girls’ soccer team takes on Pine View at Land O’ Lakes High School. The Newspaper Club meets from 3 to 4 p.m. Feb. 16. The School Advisory Council meets at 4 p.m. Feb. 17 and the boys basketball and girls soccer teams both play against Pine View.
• Pine View Middle, 5334 Parkway Blvd. – On Feb. 15, the girls’ soccer team takes on Rushe at Land O’ Lakes High School. The boys basketball and girls soccer teams both play against Rushe Feb. 17.
• Sunlake High School, 3023 Sunlake Blvd. – Tickets go on sale for “Grease” the musical Feb. 15. The cost is $5 and the play will be staged at the Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel Feb. 25-26 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.
