What's Up In Area Schools?

Trying to keep up with school calendars can be tough for busy parents. To help you out, we’ve put it all in one place. Here’s a look at events and activities taking place in schools in the Land O’ Lakes area Feb. 21-25.

Schools Are Closed Monday

Pasco County Public Schools and area private schools are closed Monday, Feb. 21 in observance of Presidents Day. Normal classes resume on Tuesday. Here’s a look at other events going on this week:

• Academy at the Lakes, 2220 Collier Pky. – The middle division’s girl’s track team travels to Berkeley Prep for a meet Feb. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. The UD Experience: The College Process with speaker Mike Kennedy is planned for Feb. 24 at 9:30 a.m. Eighth-graders will meet with Kennedy to discuss college plans. The Winter Sports Pep Rally takes place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24. The middle division’s boys track team meets against Berkeley Prep Feb. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m.  
• Land O’ Lakes Christian School, 5105 School Rd. – Open enrollment begins Feb. 22 and the Basketball All-Star Game is set for Feb. 26.
• Connerton Elementary, 9300 Flourish Dr. – McDonald’s Night is Feb. 23 and Special Olympics activities take place Feb. 25. A School Social is also planned for Feb. 25.
• Denham Oaks Elementary, 1422 Oak Grove Blvd. –The school is accepting donations of old VCRs, iPods and Nanos are being accepted.
• Lake Myrtle, 22844 Weeks Blvd. – Turtles of Honor will be recognized Feb. 25 at 9:15 a.m.
• Oakstead Elementary, 19925 Lake Patience Rd. – Green Spirit Day is Feb. 25.
• Pine View Elementary, 5333 Parkway Blvd. – The All pro Dad Breakfast is set for Feb. 24.
• Charles S. Rushe Middle, 18654 Mentmore Blvd. – The Newspaper Club meets Feb. 23 from 3 to 4 p.m. and the National Junior Honor Society also has an eighth-grade meeting planned that day. On Feb. 24, the SAC meets at 4 p.m.
• Pine View Middle, 5334 Parkway Blvd. – An Extended Day is planned Feb. 23.
• Land O’ Lakes High School, 20325 Gator Ln. – Club Day is Feb. 22 and the Math League meets Feb. 23.
• Sunlake High School, 3023 Sunlake Blvd. – Tickets are on sale for “Grease” the musical. The cost is $5 and the play will be staged at the Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel Feb. 25-26 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.
