What’s Up In Area Schools?

Trying to keep up with school calendars can be tough for busy parents. To help you out, we’ve put it all in one place. Here’s a look at events and activities taking place in schools in the Land O’ Lakes area Feb. 28-March 4:

• Academy at the Lakes, 2220 Collier Pky. – Re-enrollment contracts are due March 1. Students will have rehearsals for “Oliver” March 2-3. The all-school musical hits the stage March 4-5 at the Center for the Performing Arts at Wesley Chapel.
• Land O’ Lakes Christian School, 5105 School Rd. – Class pictures are planned for March 1. The student council meeting is set for March 2 and the Character Chapel takes place March 3.
• Denham Oaks Elementary, 1422 Oak Grove Blvd. – FCAT Writes for the fourth grade starts March 1. The school is accepting donations of old VCRs, iPods and Nanos are being accepted.
• Lake Myrtle, 22844 Weeks Blvd. – Scholastic Book Fair entries are due this week and FCAT Writes for the fourth grade begins at 9 a.m. March 1.
• Oakstead Elementary, 19925 Lake Patience Rd. – FCAT Writes for the fourth grade begins March 1. Tijuana Flats night is also March 1. McOtter Night starts at 5 p.m. March 2 and March 4 is Green Spirit Day. The Spring Sprint for Autism is set for March 5 at Sunlake High School.
• Pine View Elementary, 5333 Parkway Blvd. – FCAT Writes for fourth graders begins March 1 and the PTA’s Parents’ Night Out is set for March 4.
• Charles S. Rushe Middle, 18654 Mentmore Blvd. – The Drama Club meets Feb. 28 from 3 to 5:15 p.m. and the boys basketball team plays at John Long Middle School. The PTSA general meeting and spaghetti dinner is also planned for Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. March 1 is FCAT Writes testing day and the girls soccer team plays Thomas Weightman Middle. The Newspaper Club meets from 3 to 4 p.m. March 2. On March 3, the boys basketball team takes on Pine View and the girls soccer team plays against John Long Middle.
• Pine View Middle, 5334 Parkway Blvd. – An Extended Day is planned Feb. 28. FCAT Writes testing begins March 1. March 2 is also an extended day. On March 3, the boys basketball team plays against Rushe.
• Land O’ Lakes High School, 20325 Gator Ln. – FCAT Writes testing begins March 1.
• Sunlake High School, 3023 Sunlake Blvd. – FCAT Writes testing begins March 1. A blood drive is planned March 3.
