National Nude Running Champs Hail from Bay Area

The event drew runners from 12 states to Land O' Lakes to compete for the title of national champion.

There’s a first time for everything.  And recently, Land O’ Lakes hosted the first-ever national championship of nude running.

The Sept. 30 Bare Dare 5K at Caliente drew runners from 12 states to compete for the title of national nude running champ, a designation that didn’t exist before this year.

Whit Lasseter of South Tampa won the past two Bare Dare races, and was hoping to clinch the national title this year, but she was edged out by Jessica Sebor of St. Petersburg.

Sebor, the editor of Woman's Running Magazine, clinched the top spot with a time of 19:42.

It was Sebor’s first nude 5K— and the first time she ever ran naked, she said.

"I'm so excited. It's so much fun,” Sebor said of her win.

Lee Stevens, originally from Land O' Lakes, won the men’s national title with a time of 16:22.

The previous record for the Bare Dare was a time of 16:51, which was held by his longtime friend and this year's second-place winner, Eric Hall of Dade City.

Hall’s time was 16:45.

The two have raced together since college, they said.

Editor's note: I ran the Bare Dare with a few friends. We didn't get naked, but we had a great time. (There may have been superhero underwear involved. Maybe. ) Look for my column later this week.
