Help Needed in Wake of West Pasco Flooding

The Red Cross mobilized Tuesday to provide support for residents displaced by Tropical Storm Debby floodwaters.

Land O' Lakes is holding up nicely in the wake of Tropical Storm Debby's extended stay. So far, we have only gotten reports of minor damage in the area, and the main roads are mostly checking out clear.

But our neighbors in West Pasco, where rains from the tropical storm caused flooding above the 100-year flood level, are not faring as well. and due to on Tuesday in much of the western part of the county mean that once Debby finally leaves us, there will be much work to do.

Donations to the America Red Cross Disaster Relief support the agency's efforts to assist the displaced residents of West Pasco. Contributions to the Florida West Coast Red Cross Chapter can be made online.

You also can visit www.redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

The Salvation Army has not deployed in the area yet, however, the local  disaster response team is ready to roll when needed, Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services director Kevin Smith said.

“Our local Pasco County team has been in contact with local emergency management regarding the evacuations around Little Road and Hwy 54. At this point, the majority of these families have found shelter with friends and loved ones and only a few have sought out shelters," Smith said.

The best way to help right now is to donate financially, Smith said. Donations can be made online or checks can be mailed to The Salvation Army Disaster Relief, 7745 Ridge Road, Port Richey 34668.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the Salvation Army’s disaster ministry can find information at www.disaster.salvationarmyusa.org.
