Oasis Pregnancy Center Expands to Wesley Chapel

The new satellite office provides help for women facing a crisis pregnancy.

For years, Land O’ Lakes residents have known they had a place to turn for help if the demands and uncertainties of an unplanned pregnancy caused concern.

Now, Wesley Chapel area women have a place to go for the same kind of assistance. Oasis – A Pregnancy Care Center recently opened the doors on a satellite office that’s designed to serve residents of that area, including New Tampa and Zephyrhills.

The new center began serving clients at 5854 Argerian Drive, Suite 101, on May 1 and is now available to provide a variety of services to pregnant women and their families, said Maria Costa, center director.

While the new center is smaller than its Land O’ Lakes counterpart, Costa said it offers “exactly the same services.” For some things, including shopping for baby items with points earned through taking parenting classes, women may have to travel to Land O’ Lakes though.

Services available through Oasis include:

Oasis is a faith-based nonprofit that was founded by Peter Castellani to provide area women support. It doesn’t charge clients a dime for services, Castellani said. Instead, it relies on support from churches and the community. It is also staffed by a team of volunteers who are trained to offer assistance, help with reception duties and more.

“They’re (volunteers) the heartbeat of this ministry,” he said. “We couldn’t do it without them. They’re our everyday heroes.”

Oasis won Land O’ Lakes Patch’s customer service competition in 2012.

The Wesley Chapel location is open Tuesdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The number to call for more information is 813-618-5037.

The nonprofit is always seeking volunteers, Costa said. Many of those already onboard are bilingual to make providing services to Spanish speakers easier.
