The young members of MBL Trio, 2012's Rockus Maximus winners, continue to perform and record.
They’re young, “refreshing,” and, though separated by more than a thousand miles, still rockin’. The Lutz teens who make up MBL Trio, last year’s Rockus Maximus winners, are still at it, despite Michael Lindo’s move to Boston, where he now attends Berklee College of Music. “The band and I continue to perform together when I come down for breaks or if we have a really important gig,” Lindo wrote in an email. “We just finished playing a few shows one at the Market on 7th in Ybor, The State Theatre in St. Petersburg and we played the First Night in St. Pete New Years event.” The band, which includes Michael’s brother, Lorenzo Lindo, and Ben Kennett, both Steinbrenner High seniors, is also finishing up its new E.P. The clock is winding down as eight bands prepare to battle it out at Rockus Maximus XV. The Pasco County Library System's 15th annual battle of the bands, featuring young musicians from the Bay area and elsewhere, will be held Friday, March 23. Up for grabs: $1,000 cash and 10 hours of recording time at Morrisound Recording in Tampa. Patch caught up with Lights at Night, one of the bands hoping to take home the top prize, to find out what makes them rock. Patch: What are the names of your band members, what do they play, how old are they and where are they from? Lights at Night: Patch: What style of music do you play? Lights at Night: We play a form of progressive indie rock. Some have likened it to classic/indie rock. Either way it'…
Four of the bands competing in Rockus Maximus XV performed Friday night.
The bands were separated from the crowd by a row of tiny chairs; picture books filled the shelves behind them. The Land O' Lakes library turned up the volume in the the children's section as four of the Rockus Maximus XV competitors performed Friday night. Patrons walking into the library near show time were greeted—and warned. "Are you here for the concert? I'm just making sure all the adults coming in know it's about to get loud in there," I was told. (Confession: I was a little disappointed to be recognized as a grownup.) Open Box Policy opened the show, followed by Braille & Color, Hepburn & The Hooligan and Lights At Night. Lights at Night lead singer Marina Young had strep throat, so the band improvised with instrumental versions of …
The search for bands to compete in the 15th annual Rockus Maximus got under way at the kick off concert Saturday.

Though there wasn’t any battling going on, a handful of bands played their set list for the crowd. The show was a way to “draw awareness” to the upcoming 15th annual battle of the bands competition, said Paul Stonebridge, the teen services manager for Pasco County Libraries. The event kicks off the application period for bands that want to compete in the annual battle of the bands, which will be held March 23. "Any band with the majority of members aged 21 and under is eligible, so long as they play their own instruments and have at least two original songs," …
