Best of 2012: Leap of Faith Shows Signs of Success for Pasco Inmates

The Bible-based Celebrate Recovery program is introduced at the Land O' Lakes jail, and inmates sing its its praises.

As 2012 comes to a close, Land O' Lakes Patch is taking a look back at the year that was. In March, we reported on the implementation of a faith-based initiative at the Land O' Lakes jail. Celebrate Recovery, a Bible-based support program “for any hurt, habit or hang up," was introduced to Pasco inmates to help them on the road to recovery both in and out of jail. “I never thought they’d care enough,”  inmate Joseph Churchville, 43, said at the time.  The program is available “not only here but when we leave here.” Nocco spoke briefly to the men during the session Patch attended in March, and the men had a few words for him, as well. “God bless you, sheriff.” If you want to read the full version, you'll find it here: Leap of Faith Shows …

Best of 2012: Teen's Struggles Lead Him to Polls

Troy Teegardin cast his first ballot in the 2012 presidential primary. He shared his thoughts on the election and his reasons for voting with Patch.

As 2012 comes to a close, Land O' Lakes Patch is taking a look back at the year that was. In February, we featured a local teen and his mom that we met at the polls during the primary election. Troy Teegardin and his mother, Kelly Teegardin, cast their votes for Mitt Romney at the Land O' Lakes Recreation Complex. It was the 19-year-old's first time casting a ballot, and for his family, it was a very important election. The 2011 Sunlake High graduate has cerebral palsy, and the system thus far had mostly failed them—and others. “He has a disability, but he’s very, very bright,” Kelly Teegardin said. But to get him the services he needs, “you wouldn’t believe what we go through.” If you want to read the full version, you'll find it here: …

Best of 2012: Naturist Lives from the Heart

Nudist and community leader Paul Brenot made history in Pasco County. He shared his story with Patch in January.

As 2012 comes to a close, Land O' Lakes Patch is taking a look back at the year that was. In January, we featured a profile story on a community leader who made history with his efforts to bring international tourism to Pasco County. Paul Brenot, founder and past president of Pasco Area Naturist Development Association, secured a tourism development grant from the county to promote the area's naturist resorts to European tourists on Dec. 20, 2011. The grant marked the first time Pasco commissioners would use public money to promote the county as a destination for naturists, and it was likely a first in the nation. Brenot and others in the organization also work to educate others about naturism, and support a variety of local charities, …
