Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Claim Shot Down

The eatery wanted to trademark the phrase “Best Coffee in America.” The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said no. Do you agree with Dunkin’ or is there better coffee to be had right here in Land O' Lakes?

Drive around Land O' Lakes and it is evident there are plenty of places to get a hot cup of Joe. But who has the best? Dunkin’ Donuts tried to stake the claim that its brew was the finest in America. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, however, just didn’t agree, according to The Boston Globe. “Anyone at all can claim that their coffee is the ‘Best Coffee in America,’ ” trademark attorney Zick Rubin is quoted by the Globe as saying. “No one takes such a claim literally, and no one company can monopolize the phrase.” Do you agree with Dunkin Donuts’ claim or do you think there’s better coffee to be had in Land O' Lakes? Tell us who has your favorite piping hot cup of Joe in the area by commenting below.

The Walton family moved to Land O' Lakes five years ago, owner Andy Walton said. But the area lacked something. And that something was 32 flavors of Hershey's ice cream. We took a long time to come up with the details, Walton said. But once the lease was signed on the shop, …

Coffee Shop Has A Different Kind Of Mission

Some profits benefit missionary groups, ministries and nonprofits.

It’s kind of like “ 'Cheers,’ but without the beer.” That’s how customer Adam Smith describes A Cup of Organic, 1900 Oak Grove Blvd. The shop opened about six months ago as more than its owners originally intended. It was supposed to be an ecommerce company that would enable churches and other organizations to fundraise for their ministries by selling organic coffee purchased directly by A Cup of Organic from farmers in Comayagua, Honduras. It started out with two potential owners – Peter Davidson and Douglas Torres – and grew to five. The ownership team is rounded out by Juan Torres, Glenn Deller and JD Lane. Comayagua is the Torres’ hometown. One thing led to another and it was decided the ecommerce business should also have a physical …
