An afternoon barbecue raised money to build a playground for children whose visits with their parents are overseen by the nonprofit agency Family Partnerships.

You Build Families playground fundraiser Aug. 11 at New Port Richey's Forest Glen Lodge. Looking for something family friendly to do this weekend? Family Partnerships has an event set for Saturday that might be right up your alley. The group has an afternoon of music, food and games planned to raise money to build a playground for kids who are from troubled families. Family Partnerships is the organization that oversees supervised visits between children and their parents. It serves families from many parts of Pasco County. Family Partnerships provides court-ordered supervised visits between parents and at-risk children but could use a setting that puts the children at ease.
For children from homes wracked by divorce, drug use, violence or myriad other dangers and taken under the court’s protection, a chance to see mom and dad should be a time of happiness. But when parents can only visit while under court-ordered supervision, it is not always so much fun. “It can be stressful,” said Jeremy Simons, a New Port Richey area family law attorney. And while an organization called Family Partnerships handles the supervised visits, an effort is under way to create a place to help put the children at ease. The ultimate goal is to build a playground where the visits are now held.
