Amber Alert Update: Hakken Children Might Be on a Boat

The young brothers were abducted from their grandmother’s Carrollwood area home April 3. Authorities now believe their father has taken them out to into open waters.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has updated its Amber Alert for Cole and Chase Hakken, two young boys abducted from their grandmother’s Carrollwood area home on April 3. Authorities now have reason to believe their accused abductor, their father Joshua Hakken, 35, may be traveling with the children on a 1972, 25-foot Morgan sailboat. The boat has the registration number of FL3717BK and has a blue hull. The boat in question is named “Salty” and has a picture of a paw near the hull on both sides, according to a FDLE media release. The stern also has “St. Petersburg” written on it in white letters. The vessel has a blue Bimini top and when its sail is unfurled it is white with blue trim. Wesley Chapel Woman Dies in Early Morning Crash

Her Toyota Camry crashed into a telephone pole around 3:15 a.m. The accident is still under investigation.

A Wesley Chapel woman died early Tuesday morning after her car crashed into a telephone pole. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office,  Gina M. Balistreri was traveling south on 78th Street in the Palm River area when her 2005 Toyota Camry veered off the road for an unknown reason and crashed into a telephone pole in front of a residential area at about 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 15. A resident called 911, and Balistreri was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where she died a short time later, according to the sheriff's office. Balistreri, 28, of 6217 Bridleford Drive in Wesley Chapel was the only occupant in the vehicle. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Bird's Eye View Helps Nab Suspected Burglars

Two men accused of breaking into a Lutz home were tracked by the Hillsborough County Aviation unit Monday morning.

A bird's eye view gave Hillsborough County deputies the vantage point they needed to track down two men suspected of fleeing into Pasco County after attempting to break into a Lutz home. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call for a burglary in progress at 17610 Willow Pond Drive at 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 7. The caller indicated that two men had kicked in the door of the home but when they saw the homeowner, both fled in a red Mustang. Deputies came in contact with the men at the on-ramp of I-275 North at Bearss Avenue and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Tampa Police Officer OK after Early Morning Crash

Hillsborough County deputies have arrested a Land O’ Lakes man on charges of driving under the influence with property damage.

A Tampa police officer struck this morning at the corner of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and 42nd Street has been treated and released from the hospital. According to Tampa Police Department spokeswoman Janelle McGregor, Cpl. Robert Clifford was conducting a citizen ride-along while transporting a Baker Act patient to the hospital when his cruiser was involved in a crash. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Bradley Allen Weber, 20, of 6521 Tower Road in Land O’ Lakes in relation to the accident. He was charged with driving under the influence with property damage. The sheriff’s office said that Clifford was going southbound on Bruce B. Downs around 12:30 a.m. today, Feb. 6, when he was struck by Weber’s Ford pickup truck. …
