Gators, Seahawks Hit the Road Tonight

Land O' Lakes Patch previews Friday night's matchups.

Area prep football fans will have to take to the road to watch the Gators and Seahawks in action tonight, Sept. 30. Here's a look at what both teams are facing. Sunlake Looks to Remain Undefeated The Seahawks 4-0 (1-0) are still flying high after a 49-16 trouncing of Springstead. They finally halted their two-game string of shutouts but still managed to handle Springstead in their first district game. Senior quarterback Cameron Stoltz went 8-for-13 for 226 yards and three touchdowns. Stoltz is the current leader in passing yards in District 6. Head Coach Bill Browning called out senior Jerome Samuels, as did USAF by naming him player of the week. He carried the ball 11 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Gators Romped by Pirates in Classic Rivalry

The Land O' Lakes Gators were toppled by the Pasco Pirates 39-6 on Friday during the rivalry's 36th meeting.

The rain on Friday night ceased just in time for the kickoff to one of the oldest standing rivalries in Pasco County: the Land O ’Lakes Gators and Pasco Pirates. That rivalry began in 1976, and 36 years later it's as bitter as ever. On Sept. 9, the Pirates did something that neither team had done in the history of the rivalry, and that’s extend its winning streak to five games in five years as they cruised by the Gators, 39-6. Both Pasco (2-0) and Land O’ Lakes held four-game win streaks in the past. Land O' Lakes Football Players Hone Skills Over The Summer

The 7-on-7 games are keeping Gators and Seahawks players on their toes.

Spring practices for high school football teams concluded in May and preseason workouts cannot officially begin until August. For some players, however, there is an outlet during that downtime. The Pasco County 7-on-7 Summer Football League affords teams an opportunity to look at the skill of their players for the upcoming season. Sunlake High School Coach Bill Browning and Brian Wachtel, who takes over at Land O’ Lakes after an offseason coaching shakeup, are both taking long, hard looks. Sunlake is coming off its best season in its four-year history, narrowly missing out on the playoffs while winning a school-record eight games.
