Check Out, Download Books with Land O' Lakes Library Apps

The Pasco County Library has two apps for readers on the go.

Need to check out a library book? There's an app for that. "LS2 Mobile is the online cataloging program that we use with the public side of our website," Land O' Lakes Library teen services manager Paul Stonebridge said. The app gives similar access to the library catalog and search features. It also allows placement of holds and other services, Stonebridge said. It is available for Apple devices and Androids. The library also offers another app, Overdrive Media Console, that allows users to access its large collection of e-books and digital audio books in a variety of formats, Stonebridge said. "We have titles compatible with Apple devices, Android, Windows Media Player, Adobe E-Pub Reader, and more," Stonebridge said. "The books can be …

Libraries May Offer More Hours?

One Pasco County Commissioner would like to see this happen.

Commissioner Says Libraries Need Longer Hours

Jack Mariano wants to see libraries stay open longer and park fees go away.

Pasco County Commissioners voted Feb. 19 to allow libraries to set their own hours, but the action likely didn’t go far enough for one board member. Commissioner Jack Mariano wants the county to revisit its 40-hour-a-week policy for libraries. He also wants to see Pasco do away with many of the park fees it enacted when budget constraints made it necessary to scale back on costs and increase revenues. Tuesday’s action didn’t extend library hours. Instead commissioners gave their approval for libraries like the Land O’ Lakes branch to adjust their hours within that set 40 a week allowed since the board scaled back in 2006. “We’re getting requests from the communities to have us open at night more often,” Nancy Fredericks, chair of the …

The libraries need to be open on Monday even if nothing else is done. Our only income is social security and IRA that lost their value. We depend on the library internet. It would be nice not to pay entry to the parks we have paid taxes for the last 23 yrs in Pasco Co. if we can afford the gas to get there. Good job Commissioner!   more ›

The Battle Wages On at the Land O' Lakes Library

Four of the bands competing in Rockus Maximus XV performed Friday night.

The bands were separated from the crowd by a row of tiny chairs; picture books filled the shelves behind them. The Land O' Lakes library turned up the volume in the the children's section as four of the Rockus Maximus XV competitors performed Friday night. Patrons walking into the library near show time were greeted—and warned. "Are you here for the concert? I'm just making sure all the adults coming in know it's about to get loud in there," I was told. (Confession: I was a little disappointed to be recognized as a grownup.) Open Box Policy opened the show, followed by Braille & Color, Hepburn & The Hooligan and Lights At Night. Lights at Night lead singer Marina Young had strep throat, so the band improvised with instrumental versions of …
