The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority is planning for the future and it wants to hear from Land O' Lakes residents on where its priorities should lie.
Land O' Lakes residents who want to have their say about road construction and other future transportation projects are getting their chance. The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority, or TBARTA for short, is in the process of putting together its 2013 Master Plan Update for the counties it serves. As that process moves forward, TBARTA is turning to residents via a new website, TellTBARTA.com, to get their input and ideas for the future of transportation in the Tampa Bay area. TBARTA was formed by the state Legislature in 2007 to create and implement a master transportation plan for the seven counties it serves. Those counties include Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas. The Florida Senate is once again considering joining the 39 states that have already outlawed the act on their roads.
Land O’ Lakes motorists who like to cruise down area roads while sending text messages to their friends might soon find themselves on the wrong side of the law. The Florida Senate is once again taking up a bill that would ban texting-while-driving, according to The Tampa Tribune. While the state’s Legislature has tried to ban the act in the past and failed, proponents of the measure keep bringing it back up. If the bill makes it through the Legislature, it would make texting behind the wheel a secondary offense, the Tribune reported. That means police would have to have another reason to pull a driver over to be able to issue a ticket. According to Forbes, texting-while-driving is linked to 11 teen deaths a day. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money. I can't say how many times someone has swerved into my single oncoming lane to miss by narrow margin hitting me head on. normally i would say "drunk driver!" but this happens at anytime of day (esp on Ehren Cutoff or Collier parkway). I suspect texting behind the wheel.   more ›
