'Wanna Be' Mayor Supports Land O' Lakes High Band

Rene Van Hout recently took a timeout from her campaign to raise funds during a football game.

Land O' Lakes Honorary Mayor 'Wanna Be' Rene Van Hout, right, took a break from her fundraising campaign to help raise money for the Land O' Lakes High Gator Band. She sold 50/50 split-pot tickets during a recent football game. The winner was Debi Hensley, left, who gave it all back to the band, a donation of more than $300.

What a cool thing to do! As a new band mom, I am just realizing how very much our school bands can use the financial support.   more ›

Talk ‘Politics’ Tonight at Hungry Harry’s

A fundraiser for Land O’ Lakes honorary mayor candidate Rene Van Hout is set for this evening, Oct. 24.

If you haven’t figured out what’s for dinner tonight, Rene Van Hout has an idea for you. The honorary mayor candidate is playing host to a barbecue dinner fundraiser at Hungry Harry’s Famous Bar-B-Que starting at 4 p.m. A portion of your meal’s cost will go toward Van Hout’s campaign. “Bring your family and friends and enjoy foods like ribs, chicken, pulled pork, beef brisket, and more,” Van Hout said. “Deserts include cheesecake, cobblers, brownies, and ice cream. Beverage choices include soft drinks, iced tea, and beer. Twenty percent of all eat-in and take-out orders go to (the) campaign.” That campaign is for an honorary position with the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce. The mayor’s race is staged each year to pit candidates in a …

Water Skiers Put on a Show for Mayor's Barbecue

Despite windy weather, water skiers managed to put on quite a show for Dr. Deborah Hawley's Honorary Mayor's Barbecue.

A little rain and wind didn't get attendees of Dr. Deboarah Hawley's Honorary Mayor's Barbecue down. Organizers say the Oct. 8 fundraising event went off without a hitch with water skiers putting on a show on the lake behind Hungry Harry's Famous Bar-B-Q. Proceeds from the afternoon event go toward Hawley's campaign to be the next Honorary Mayor of Land O' Lakes. Click through the gallery to see pictures of the event. If you were there, we invite you to add your own photos.

Ski Show Set for Saturday

Land O’ Lakes Honorary Mayor hopefuls have a number of fundraisers planned in the coming days.

As one mayoral contender pulls out all the stops for a water ski show and barbecue this Saturday, the other is preparing to teach women how to boost their personal style. The upcoming fundraisers are all part of the Land O’ Lakes Honorary Mayor’s race. The community tradition is staged each year by the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce. Contestants vie against each other in a battle to see who can raise the most money. Proceeds benefit the chamber and each candidate’s charity of choice. The winner is announced during the chamber's holiday banquet in December. Candidates this year are Dr. Deborah Hawley of Hawley & Hawley Dental Associates and Rene Van Hout of LOL Transport & Moving. Hawley is raising money for the Pediatric Cancer …

Mayor's Race has Sweet Start

A series of fundraisers are planned for the two Land O' Lakes Honorary Mayor candidates.

The fundraising season for the Land O' Lakes Honorary Mayor's race got off to a sweet start Sept. 6 with Rene Van Hout's Italian Ice Social. Mayoral candidates are in a race to collect "votes," cash donations to the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce and their own charities of choice. This year's field of candidates includes Van Hout and dentist Dr. Deborah Hawley. Both candidates say they want to represent the chamber and community at events and are hoping to make the traditional race fun for supporters. Coming up next on the fundraising calendar are these events:
