Free Rock Concert Features Young Talent

The Pasco Library System's 16th annual Rockus Maximus: Battle of the Bands is Friday, March 22.

Are you ready to rock, Land O’ Lakes?  The Pasco County Library System’s battle of the bands will go down Friday, March 22, and organizers say it’s going to be the best show yet.  “Rockus Maximus is aimed at teens and above, though everyone is welcome to come,” Teen Services Manager Paul Stonebridge said. The 16th annual battle, which is staged without taxpayer dollars as a way to raise awareness about the musical arts and libraries gives young acts a chance to perform in a real concert. To compete, the majority of band members must be 21 or younger and have at least two original songs. The winning band takes home $1,000 in cash and $1,200 worth of professional recording time from Clearwater’s Clear Track Studios. “This is one of the few …

Check Out, Download Books with Land O' Lakes Library Apps

The Pasco County Library has two apps for readers on the go.

Need to check out a library book? There's an app for that. "LS2 Mobile is the online cataloging program that we use with the public side of our website," Land O' Lakes Library teen services manager Paul Stonebridge said. The app gives similar access to the library catalog and search features. It also allows placement of holds and other services, Stonebridge said. It is available for Apple devices and Androids. The library also offers another app, Overdrive Media Console, that allows users to access its large collection of e-books and digital audio books in a variety of formats, Stonebridge said. "We have titles compatible with Apple devices, Android, Windows Media Player, Adobe E-Pub Reader, and more," Stonebridge said. "The books can be …

Online Voting Now Open for Rockus Maximus

The Pasco County Library System's annual battle of the bands features an online contest in addition to the March 22 competition.

There are multiple fronts to this musical showdown, and one battle just launched. Online voting for the 16th annual Rockus Maximus Battle of the bands opened Tuesday, Feb.  26. You can vote for your favorite band or bands now through March 22, Land O' Lakes Library teen services manager Paul Stonebridge said. The first-place winners of the online competition will score a $500 gift card to Encore Music in Port Richey, Stonebridge said. The runner-up nets a $250 gift card. Distance No Problem for Up and Coming Musicians

The young members of MBL Trio, 2012's Rockus Maximus winners, continue to perform and record.

They’re young, “refreshing,” and, though separated by more than a thousand miles, still rockin’. The Lutz teens who make up MBL Trio, last year’s Rockus Maximus winners, are still at it, despite Michael Lindo’s move to Boston, where he now attends Berklee College of Music. “The band and I continue to perform together when I come down for breaks or if we have a really important gig,” Lindo wrote in an email. “We just finished playing a few shows one at the Market on 7th in Ybor, The State Theatre in St. Petersburg and we played the First Night in St. Pete New Years event.” The band, which includes Michael’s brother, Lorenzo Lindo, and Ben Kennett, both Steinbrenner High seniors, is also finishing up its new E.P. Meet the Bands of Rockus Maximus: MBL Trio

MBL Trio will compete Friday for the chance to win 10 hours of recording time and $1,000 cash.

On Friday, March 23, eight bands will compete in Pasco to rock audience members' socks off.   One band will leave Rockus Maximus XV with the grand prize of 10 free hours of recording time at Morrisound Studio in Tampa and $1,000. Rockus Maximus XV is the Pasco County Library System's Battle of the Bands, and it features young musicians from the Tampa Bay area and elsewhere. There is also an online voting competition going on right now. The band that receives the most votes in the online competition will bring home a $500 gift card from Encore Music.
