Land O' Lakes Water Restrictions Change Little Under New Plan

While some Tampa Bay area residents will see their number of days to water shrink in coming days, Pasco County water customers won't see many changes.

When the Southwest Florida Water Management District enacts Phase III watering restrictions March 13, Land O' Lakes residents aren't likely to notice too many changes. Pasco County has observed the same one-day-a-week restrictions the water management district is now asking all of the Bay area to enact, said Sue Chase, customer affairs manager with Pasco County Utilities. Other parts of the Bay area, including Hillsborough County, are curently on a two-day-a-week schedule, which means their customers will notice changes when the new rules kick in March 13. Pasco Not Changing its Watering Restrictions

The county plans to remain at one day a week.

Excited that the Southwest Florida Water Management District gave a green light to two-day-a-week lawn watering yesterday? Don’t change your irrigation timers just yet. Unlike neighboring counties such as Pinellas and Hillsborough, Pasco doesn’t intend to loosen its rules. Watering with potable water will remain on the same one-day schedule that’s been in place for a while in Pasco. “The lawn watering restrictions will not change,” county spokesman Eric Keaton wrote in an email quoting the Utilities Department. According to the county’s website, Pasco has its own local ordinance that spells out year-round restrictions. Hernando County has a similar local rule, according to a media release.
