Penny For Pasco Passes

Pasco County voters will continue to pay an extra cent in sales taxes.

When Pasco County voters went to the polls today, they were asked if they are willing to continue paying a 1-cent sales tax to fund school construction projects, transportation programs and other infrastructure-related ventures. The answer is yes. Pasco voters cast 134,459 ballots in favor of the measure or 69.81 percent with 108 of 110 precincts reporting. Only 58,136 people, or 30.19 percent, voted against it. The tax was set to expire in 2014. Today’s vote means it will be extended for another 10-year run. Initially approved in 2004, the bulk of money generated by what’s officially called the Local Government Infrastructure Surtax is evenly divided between the county and school district with Pasco’s cities divvying up 10 percent.
