Update 9:20 p.m.: The Pasco Sheriff's Office has positively identified the pilot who died in the plane crash as 59-year-old Harold Cameron MacManus of Tennessee. MacManus was the brother of Dr. Susan MacManus, a WFLA News Channel 8 political analyst and University of South Florida professor, according to wfla.com. Earlier: Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies have found the wreckage of a plane that crashed last night, Feb. 24, off Ehren Cutoff Road in the Cypress Creek Preserve wellfield area. Andreas Wendel, 48, of Basserdorf, Switzerland, has been identified as the pilot in yesterday’s fatal plane crash in Land O’ Lakes. According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, Wendel was a pilot for Edelweiss Air and has no relatives in the United States. His next of kin has been notified about the crash. Wendel was flying a 2004 Cessna 172S that went down around 3 a.m. in the area of Lake Irene Drive and Bexley Road. The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. “We didn’t hear anything,” said Alisa Weaver, who lives on Lake Irene near Bexley Road. One person has been killed after an ultralight plane crashed into power lines near U.S. 41 and State Road 52, accoring to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Officials are still working to free the body from the aircraft. The sheriff's office also warns that they are power outages in the area. Traffic is still being diverted off of S.R. 52.
