The plan is to wait for the “dust to settle” before setting another date.
Less than a week after packing the Land O’ Lakes Skate Park with youth ready to battle it out for trophies, the organizer of the Fire and Wood Sk8boarding Competition said he’s ready for a second go around. “Yes, we are doing another in the future,” said Dave Miller in a post-event e-mail. Miller said he’d like to wait for the free helmets children and teens signed up for at the Jan. 29 event to come in and get distributed first. “Then we will start planning after helmets are distributed and dust settles.” The first-time event was originally scheduled for Dec. 18, but was rained out. Miller, a Pasco County firefighter, put together the event that was hosted by the Ian Tilmann Foundation, Pasco County Firefighters Local 4420 and the Pasco …

An overview of the Fire and Wood Sk8Boarding Winter Competition held Saturday Jan. 29.
Skateboarders from all over the Tampa Bay area turned out to show off their tricks and vie for prizes in the first ever Fire and Wood Winter Sk8Boarding Competition Jan. 29. Held at the Land O' Lakes Skate Park, the first-ever event was sponsored by the Pasco County Professional Firefighters Local 4420, the Ian Tilmann Foundation and the skate park. The nonprofit foundation promotes skating safety and offers free helmets to prevent injury. About 50 registered contestants participated in the event and even more than that turned out to watch, support the cause and soak up the sunshine on what many described as "a perfect day." A couple of local sponsored Westside Skate Shop skateboarders, Jimmy Mastrocolo and Matt Benevides had a “sick” time…

Skaters of all ages are encouraged to participate and help raise money for a good cause.
The Land O' Lakes Recreation Complex, 3032 Collier Pky., will be overrun with skateboarders of all ages Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for The Fire And Wood Winter Sk8Boarding Competition. Skaters will be taking their best shot at the course while also raising money for a good cause, the Ian Tilmann Foundation Inc. The foundation was created in memory of Ian Lee Tilmann, a skateboarder who died from a traumatic brain injury suffered in a skateboarding accident while he was not wearing a helmet. The foundation's mission is to prevent traumatic brain injury in skateboarding by changing attitudes about helmets. Many skateboarders do not like to wear helmets and Cindy Szappan, recreation supervisor at Land O' Lakes Complex, said the …
