Yard Sale, Art Fair to Benefit Teacher Needing Kidney Transplant

The event also will feature jewelry, a bake sale, raffles and a lemonade stand.

Denham Oaks Elementary teacher Stacy Nussbaum needs a new kidney. Students, teachers, family and friends are doing everything they can to take the financial burden off the beloved third-grade teacher. And this weekend, Nussbaum's supporters are putting the fun in fundraiser in a big way. A "huge" yard sale, bake sale, art and jewelry fair and lemonade stand will take over the parking lot of Children's Nest Day School,  24170 State Rd 54 in Lutz, organizer Tiffany Hines said. There also will be raffles during the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Donations for the yard sale are still needed, Hines said. You can drop off donations anytime between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Children's Nest through Friday, she …

Young Student Raises Money to Help 'Amazing' Teacher Get Kidney Transplant

First he emptied his own piggy bank. Now Carter McDaris, 8, is spreading the word about his inspiring teacher to encourage others to help, as well.

When 8-year-old Carter McDaris realized his third grade teacher was in a battle for her life, at first, he was surprised. “I didn’t even know she was sick until my mom told me.  I didn’t know because she acts happy and never complains,” the Denham Oaks Elementary student said. The moment he found out just how sick Ms. Stacy Nussbaum is, and how much she struggles despite showing up to teach with a smile every day, Carter emptied his piggy bank and donated $72 to a fund to help his teacher get the kidney transplant she needs. His little brother, Cayden, soon did the same. “Her kidney wasn’t working so I gave her my money, because she needs to pay her bills,” Carter said. “I gave her money to make her happy, I was sad for her.” Then, Carter …

I have been crying ever since I heard this story from Carter's Grandsma, Camille McDaris. It thrills our hearts that Carter and Cayden are so compassionate. I am a teacher of 30 years and know how children care. Sometimes much more so than adults. Carter has started something very big and I just hope that people will give to this worthy cause.
