Should the Day After Super Bowl Be a National Holiday?

A petition posted Jan. 24 asking for the day off has more than 12,000 signatures so far.

Bragging rights. Chicken wings. Plenty of beer. The Super Bowl is more than just the ultimate football game. It's a holiday in itself, no matter which team (or commercials) you're rooting for. Rivaled only by Thanksgiving, Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest food fest in the nation with Americans gobbling up more than 30 million pounds of snacks. And more people are likely to waste time or call in sick the next day than any other day, according to AOL Jobs. Now, an online petition aims to make the day after a national holiday so the nation can unite—and recuperate. 4for4.com Fantasy Football created a petition Jan. 24 that has garnered more than 12,000 signatures as of Feb. 1. Did you know former Giant Homer Jones is believed to be the first player to spike the ball after a touchdown in 1965? Did you know he regrets that now-famous celebration? Law Enforcement Urges Caution On Super Bowl Sunday

Patrols will be out looking for impaired drivers.

Super Bowl Sunday and parties go hand-in-hand, but law enforcement officials want to remind revelers that drinking and driving don’t. “We will have our normal troopers out patrolling along with some DUI enforcement units,” warned Sgt. Larry Kraus of the Florida Highway Patrol. The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office will also have its normal patrols out, said spokesman Kevin Doll. “Our deputies will be out, as usual, enforcing the DUI law,” Doll said. Kraus asked motorists to plan ahead to make sure they get home safe. “The one thing we would like to stress is for motorists to please be responsible,” Kraus said. “If they are drinking, call a cab, have a designated driver or call someone to pick them up.” He also reminded that drinking and …
