Times flies, but it's the little things that stand out from the blur that I'm most grateful for this Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving Day is here. Finally! Except despite the past few days, which seemed to drag by in a blur of turkey and gravy fantasies, it doesn't feel like it's been a year since I wrote this column as a newly hired Patch editor. My mother always says time speeds up more and more the older you get, and I'm starting to see what she means. Suddenly, I have a teenage son who towers over me, whose voice dropped several octaves overnight. I have three other children following quickly in his growing-too-fast footsteps. But thankfully, he hasn't gotten too old to call me Mommy, even if it's only when he's trying to sweet talk me into something. Many county employees will get a four-day weekend.
Pasco County is closing most of its government offices this Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. While not all offices will close for a four-day weekend, most will. Here’s a breakdown of what’s closed for the holiday: Emergency services such as police and fire rescue will continue to operate as normal.

Need to pick up a few more things for dinner on Thanksgiving Day? Winn Dixie Stores will be open Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Store pharmacies, however, will be closed. And if you need a full spread at the last minute, the grocer will have fully prepared ham or turkey dinners “with all the trimmings” starting at $42.99, according to a media release. Winn Dixie is also offering a special on gift cards on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday only. Fuelperks program members can earn a 20 cents per gallon discount on gas (25 cents at Tampa stores only) on every $50 purchase of most gift cards.
