On the article Ted Schrader Apologizes to Pasco County
Clay G. Colson

ReplyKley & Pollans are both right. What is amazing is that anyone trusted him in the 1st place, he has never been the person he represented himself to be and if you ever trusted him before the question would be why? Because the Pasco Times & Tribune told you so? Have the voters of Pasco ever taken the time to look back at who these cage liner/fish wrapper rags have recommended in the past. The TBT was recently exposed for its political bias and censorship of their chosen one's opponents: http://m.cltampa.com/tampa/tampa-bays-most-censored/Content?oid=2012007 Schrader should resign that would be an acceptable apology. Who but another wife beater could not have their unearned trust eroded?

ReplyPlease remember that the Times and Tribune both "recomended" this guy ... it is what they do to maintain the status quo. This is the top elected official in Pasco County government ... makes you wonder what else he has done that he got away with? We aren't called the Banana Republic for nothing, we just elected a developer's wife to the BOCC too ... are any of you voters out there paying attention? The soap opera, "As the Commission Turns", continues...

On the article Pasco Seeking Help to Replace Gallagher
Clay G. Colson

ReplyEveryone should ask themselves why would corporations want to "help" conduct the search for a new county administrator? More importantly why would the commission even entertain such a proposal? And finally aren't we the people the true stakeholders in this process? It is bad enough that our county has been ruined by Gallagher for the last 30 years (it takes 3 commissioners to trump a Gallagher) just look at the results: overdevelopment; gridlock on our major roads; SR56 w/o a standard interchange (on & off ramps instead of signals) now not possible because of CCTC, continued degradation of Cypress Creek a Outstanding Florida Waterway, also the degradation of the Anclote & Pithlachascotee River Basins; destruction of our rural ambience & quality of life; gated communities evcerywhere causing traffic gridlock; strip malls lining major roadways, ZERO planning, the goals, policies & objectives of our comprehensive plan still not codified in laws, regulations or ordinance as required by law for the last 30 years, etc., etc., etc.. Gallagher once told me his vision for the future of Pasco was a bigger & better Pinellas ... what is there about Pinellas that shoould be reproduced?

On the article Way Clear to Negotiate New Direction for Hacienda Redevelopment

Again the problem is that they intend to significantly alter the existing interior and design, which was that of European hostels, to the detriment of it's historical value. I am sorry to tell you this Rob but NPR or the surrounding areas are NOT tourist destinations or places where businesses say WOW let's go hold our conference/convention in NPR at a historic site. The idea is grandiose and the equivalent of "build it and they will come" ... a field of dreams which won't come true.
If nothing else the city should insist that the original Hacienda Hotel remain as it was designed put all the amenities in the new building. Or better yet let the city seek the grant money available for historical restoration, create an interactive museum based on its history and market it to the European$ who have buck$ and like hostel settings. Hire a management company to run it for say 10 - 15% of the profits. Whatever you do don't ruin the historical value of the Hacienda and its rich history. -

Steve & all, the city has asked for citizen's ideas and has received many but the key to getting officials to listen is showing up at city council meetings (ccm) and workshops. I, along with ONPR, came to ccm about the Hacienda when it was planned to go westward into Simms Park taking out the super playground and restrooms. We had leafletted park goers and parents at the playground to inform them so they would attend ccm. Only 2 parents showed up ... just once. Citizens need to get involved and regularly attend ccms.

Terri, Carla, Steve and Marvin you are all right. Ist we have plenty of hotel rooms in the area and no demand for more and Holiday/NPR/PR/Hudson is not high on anyone's list as a tourist destination. The problem is that city leaders are short sighted and lack vision as the Hacienda needs to be restored to it's former glory (w/o any additions) as a interactive historical site. It should remain as it was originally, a hostel, with shared facilities just like through most of Europe. European vactioners should be the "target" with the Hacienda being their "homebase", aplace to lay you head at night (or whenever you sleep), change clothes and plan the next day's adventures. Each room should be named for a former famous guests with photos/info about the person. All this would set it aside from all the other hotels. CDP's idea is too grandiose for sleepy little NPR but the Hacienda as it was would be enticing to Europeans who find sleepy quaint.

ReplyGood job Jeff, very interesting and informative. But not the only time we saw 17 degree temperatures in Florida. There was one time in the Ocala National Forest, Marion County, when me and some hunt buddies sat in our tree stands with blistering winds and the temperature was just 17 degrees. On that day, early in the morning, NASA launched a space shuttle, other than that I don't have an exact date.

Oh yeah, it took them EIGHTEEN DAYS to respond to an illegal dumping by a septic hauler into a wetland in our neighborhood ... EIGHTEEN DAYS AND FOUR PHONE CALLS.

I must wholeheartedly agree with Commissioner Mariano's stance on all issues covered in this article, he is 100% correct ... this time, not so much on a 5 mile channel to the Gulf for a bunch of development speculators ... Sunwest Habouretown.
Thanks, peace and be well,
