ReplyTwo loyal readers have given me permission to post the following comment on their behalf:
"Dear Greg, this is one of the best you have posted. Great history, my favorite subject of all times, and education for us lower information voters. Ha! Your finished Narrative to summarize this and it's clarity of purpose was very helpful. And most of all Educational to the Legislative process. Thanks for taking time to publish this, as this is a period of multi-tasking you folks are doing, so keep them coming.
Ed & Virginia Carraway"Thank you both for your ongoing comments and support!

Thanks, Rob. I have pasted almost word for word the comments I made to the previous reader: As you probably know, Rep Fasano attempted, quite valiantly, to amend the House bill to mirror the Senate's proposal which would open up health care to 1 million or more uninsured Floridians. Unfortunately an alternative plan, which would only ensure a fraction of those residents, passed the House. In these remaining days of session it will be interesting to see if the two chambers can come to some sort of agreement regarding how to move forward.
I hope you are enjoying your Tuesday evening bike rides!

ReplyI agree, Rob, that whomever its hired must be "invested" in the local community. I would think it would be fairly easy to determine if a local applicant has ties to whomever you refer to as the special interests. An important quality of the applicant would be not only a new vision for the city but a willingness to work with the council to achieve that vision.

Rob, I agree that the selection of a new city manager will be one of the most, if not THE most, important decisions the council will have to make. You know better than most the challenges facing the council, and by extension the city itself. It is time that a local person, who understands the unique challenges of New Port Richey, its residents and surrounding communiities, take over this important job.
