Domestic Dispute Turns Violent, Ends in Attempted Murder Charges

A 42-year-old Wesley Chapel woman admitted to shooting her husband multiple times during a domestic dispute.

She now faces attempted murder charges.

Diana Louise Matthews, of Arthur Drive in Wesley Chapel, was arrested Sunday, June 16. Her husband was listed in critical condition with gunshots to the torso and lower groin, according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office report.

Matthews told authorities the pair was engaged in a heated dispute that turned physical. When she retreated from the house to retrieve a .380 Colt handgun from her vehicle, the report states, the husband followed after her and grabbed her by the hair.

That’s when Matthews shot him several times.

Authorities say Matthews was cooperative during questioning and had said she suffered years of abuse by her husband.
