Sheriff's Deputy Struck by Arrestee

Michael Jermaine Brown Jr. faces a litany of charges including felony battery on a law enforcement officer.

An argument over a lost cellphone escalated over the weekend, resulting in a litany of criminal charges for a Wesley Chapel man, including felony battery against a law enforcement officer.

Michael Jermaine Brown Jr. of Anclote River Street, was heading home from a party early Sunday morning with several people when the argument began, authorities say. Brown allegedly struck three of the people in the vehicle.

The vehicle stopped at the State Road 54 Publix so the occupants could calm Brown. But according to the sheriff’s office, Brown then began arguing and wrestling with his brother, who also tried to intervene.

An undercover deputy was alerted to the scene. The deputy, who had a department badge around his neck, identified himself and tried to detain Brown but Brown began fighting the officer, authorities say. One of the blows by Brown wounded the officer’s face near the eyebrow, causing the need for stitches.

Brown was charged with three counts of simple battery, resisting an officer with violence, domestic battery and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. He is currently lodged at the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center.
