Update: 1 Dead in Land O' Lakes Plane Crash

The plane went down around 3 a.m. Saturday. At least one person is confirmed dead.

Update 9:22 a.m. Sept. 22: The plane involved in this morning’s crash in Land O’ Lakes is registered to Stephen Morrissey of Ojai, Calif., according to Bay News 9. It is unclear if Morrissey was the pilot. Officials are confirming that no passengers were on board the 2004 Cessna 172S single-engine plane when it crashed.

Residents of the neighborhood where the plane went down said they had no warning a crash was about to happen.

“We didn’t hear anything,” said Alisa Weaver, who lives on Lake Irene near Bexley Road.

The plane was headed in for a landing at Tampa Executive Airport from Pensacola, but fell off the radar, Bay News 9 said.

One person is confirmed dead in the crash of a small plane in Land O' Lakes early Saturday morning.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office received a call at about 3 a.m. that a plane, believed to be a Cessna 172, went down near Lake Irene Drive and Bexley Road in Land O' Lakes.

At this time, it is unknown if there were additional people on the plane. The name of the deceased individual has not yet been released.

FAA authorities are currently on scene investigating.
