Local Authors to Showcase Their Passion

The fourth-annual Local Author Fair will be held Saturday, April 13, at the Land O' Lakes Library.

Lovers of language and stories, take note: Saturday, April 13, is the fourth annual Local Author Fair at the Land O’ Lakes Library.

The event, held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., provides an opportunity for the 11 scheduled writers to showcase their work and chat with the public, as well as network with other authors. Many of the writers will be selling copies of their books, said Michele Laney, public services librarian.

Everything from religion and mystery to cooking and couponing will be represented. “We have most of the genres,” Laney said. “It’s an assortment.”

Attendees will have a chance to discuss writing and the publishing process with local authors such as Kat Heckenbach, who writes young adult fiction, fantasy, sci-fi and horror, according to her website.

A graduate of the University of Tampa and a married mother of two, Heckenbach has written everything “from inspirational personal essays to dark and disturbing fantasy and horror, with over forty short fiction and nonfiction credits to her name,” her site reads.

The other scheduled authors are David Berger, Val Elder, Haimes Hensley, Donald Kidwell, Dick Lowrie, Alison Martin, Kim Moore, Lisa Peterson, Iris & Michael Raie, and Evelyn Johnson-Taylor Ph.D.

Laney is hoping for a good turnout from the public but, she added with a laugh, "you never know what else is going on on a particular Saturday."

The library is located at 2818 Collier Parkway in Land O' Lakes.
