5 Things Includes a Chicken Man and a Wine Walk

Balmy weather and a little fun help usher in the weekend.

It's Thursday, Oct. 27, and the weekend is oh-so-close. Looking for something to keep your mind off everything standing between you and Saturday morning R & R?

  • Picture this: practically perfect weather. The National Weather Service forecast calls for partly sunny skies with highs in the mid-80s and a 20 percent chance of showers in the afternoon. Forecasters are still keeping an eye on Hurricane Rina, but so far she doesn’t seem to be much of a threat to the Bay area.
  • W(h)ine a little! Enjoy the final night of Wine Walk from 6 to 8:30 tonight at The Shops at Wiregrass. Pick up a souvenir wine glass and sample the offerings at five pouring stations. Food samples also will be available. The event, which has taken place every Thursday in October, benefits the Jason Ackerman Foundation.
  • On your mark, get set... Relay for Life of Land O' Lakes hosts a kick-off party at 7:30 at The Lodge at Wilderness Lake Preserve, 21320 Wilderness Lake Blvd. Old and new teams are invited to join the fun. RSVP Alyssa Smith 813-731-9704 or email lolrelayvc@yahoo.com.
  • Make a pledge with your kids. Red Ribbon Week at MOSI continues today with $5 discounts for students and parents who sign a Say No To Drugs pledge.
  • He didn't invent the Ford, just the chicken sandwich. On this day in 2006, the last Ford Taurus rolled off the assembly line in Hapeville, GA, before it closed its doors and 1,500 workers lost their jobs. The keys to the silver car went to Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy.
