Celebrating 70 Years Of Nudism in Florida

Lake Como Resort has been going strong since 1941.

It's hard to believe that the Nudist lifestyle turns 70 years young this month, and it's still growing by leaps and bounds thanks to many different factors, from the Internet and organizations like AANR and TNS to the dedication of  the members of the various resorts and clubs around the country that promote the lifestyle in a positive manner.

One of the best examples of this is right here in the Land O' Lakes area at Lake Como Resort; the oldest venue in Florida and one of the oldest in the country. Located on more than 200 acres off Leonard Road just west of U.S. 41, this resort has witnessed many changes in the area and many changes in the Nudist lifestyle.

In the early years, the focus on Nudism was on health and exercise, but it has evolved to be as much about "social nudism" as much it is about a healthier life. While many larger resorts have gone "clothing optional" to attract more people to give them a try, Lake Como  remains true to the original concept of a "Family Nudist Resort" where nudism is encouraged at all times, conditions permitting. Most Nudists agree that this puts everyone on equal footing from the beginning with no ambiguity about what we are all about.

Lake Como has  a more rustic quality to it, with a lot of open space and not so much pavement. Yet, the resort has all the amenities, from hotel rooms, a full-service restaurant and club( the world famous Butt Hut) hot tubs, pools, volleyball (Super Bowl South) and perhaps the best clay court tennis facility in Pasco County, maybe even Tampa Bay.

Many think Lake Como is the best of the old and the new, and it is still close to everything.

I can only imagine how remote it must have been in those early days when Tampa was many miles down the road.

Happy Anniversary Lake Como!
