This Week: Firefighters Rally for Sick Child, Deputy Arrested for Battering Inmate

Pasco Firefighters Grant Sick Boy’s Wish: When Christina Jenks, the wife of Pasco County Fire Rescue firefighter/paramedic Eric Jenks, heard about 5-year-old Nathan Norman’s wish to receive cards, letters and patches from first responders around the country, she decided to start a drive in Pasco to collect items for the boy, who is battling brain cancer. Christina figured she’d collect enough to fill a box to send to Nathan in time for Christmas.

Christina underestimated the response from Pasco firefighters, paramedics and law enforcement officers.

“It’s spreading like crazy,” Christina said.

Pasco Jail Deputy Fired After Battering Inmate: Deputy Phillip Walters, 45, of Land O' Lakes entered a cell at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and grabbed inmate Trent Matthew Godizzaro around the neck and punched him in the head, according to an arrest report from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with battery.

Sheriff's Office Seeks Info on Christmas Eve Bank Burglary: Pasco County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a Christmas Eve bank burglary in Wesley Chapel, which may be related to other similar bank burglaries in the Bay area on the same day. Anyone with information on the suspect in the photos is asked to call the sheriff's office.

Fiscal Cliff: Do the Tax Hikes Worry You?: With New Year’s just around the corner, all eyes are turning to Washington, D.C., where lawmakers are working to prevent America from falling off the so-called fiscal cliff. That cliff is the automatic activation of budget cuts and tax hikes that will kick in on Jan. 1, 2013, if something isn’t done to prevent them.
