October 17, 2012- LAND O’ LAKES, FL- Current of Tampa Bay will sponsor its first Pasco County Hope for Homes Project during the weekend of Oct. 26-28.

Hope for Homes Projects provide remodeling and improvement work on homes owned by low and middle income families. Working with community volunteers and small businesses, Hope for Homes will not just renovate the family’s home, but the project’s larger efforts involve helping to change their lives. This will be their fourth home renovation since starting the project in 2010.

“We could not be more excited about the overwhelming response we have received from the community to help launch our first Pasco County Project,” says Founder and President of Current, Jason Sowell. Current is the local nonprofit that runs the Hope for Homes Project. “This family has faced hardship and many trials. Their story is one of perseverance and dedication and they need our help, now more than ever.”

The Calkowski family owns and operates a small sign business in the Tampa area. Mr. Calkowski was recently diagnosed with oral cancer and continues to battle the disease with various forms of treatment. Fighting the disease depletes Calkowski of most of his energy, leaving his wife to run the business by herself. The business has also faced hardship, as all of the family’s funds go toward Calkowski’s cancer treatments.

Home repairs for this family will include: new fixtures, faucets, roof repairs, drywall repair, atrium cleanup and new appliances. Hope for Homes Projects generally range from small remodel or repair jobs to more extensive repairs, which help bay area families enjoy a better quality of life.

The $12,000 renovation will be completed over the 57-hour weekend period. During that time, the Calkowski family will spend the weekend in a local hotel where they will enjoy visiting local Tampa attractions and relaxing in a peaceful environment. Local companies like Wholesale Coaching Inc., Amoroso Cabinets, Grow Life Church, Reality Church, Krewe of Agustina, The Florida Aquarium and Vistra Communications, are providing support for the project. Please visit www.HomesByCurrent.org for an updated listof supporters as the project draws closer.

“We are canceling all church services for the day and asking our members to come andsupport this family instead,” says Grow Life Church Pastor, James Dodzweit.

“I think this is huge for the area,” says Sowell. “Pasco has been doing a lot to revitalize andimprove the communities there and I think this project will compliment that; I think it willgive some hope, not only to the Calkowski family, but to the entire Land O’ Lakes community.”
