Florida Named Scariest State in America

The real estate website Estately Blog says the Sunshine State tops them all when it comes to common fears realized.

House hunters looking for places to lay down roots are being warned that Florida is No. 1 when a list of 15 common fears is taken into account.

At least that’s the contention of the real estate website Estately Blog. In its recently published report, “The United States of Fear,” the real estate search website took a look at common fears that people have and ranked the 50 states accordingly.

“Here at the real estate search site Estately we know there are hundreds of worries when choosing where to buy a home, so to help house hunters make a more informed decision we’ve mapped out where Americans’ darkest fears are most readily found,” the article explains.

Delving into such fears as clowns, bears, tornadoes, murderers, shark attacks and meth labs, the authors did their homework to crunch some numbers before tallying results. The criteria used to arrive at the numbers came from such sources as the Florida University International Shark Attack File and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Florida not only ranked number one overall, but came in first place for hurricanes, shark attacks and tornadoes. It also came in third for lightning and fifth for spiders.

Recent news from around the state lends some credence to the report's conclusions. A host of shark attacks have been reported this summer alone in the Sunshine State and a lightning strike recently took out a portion of a Clearwater home.

“The most dangerous state in America is the most likely place to experience a real life Sharknado. Or even a Sharkicane. Both are sometimes accompanied by Sharkning, which is terrifying,” the site’s authors wrote about their

Georgia, Texas, Louisiana and Alabama trailed the Sunshine results.State in the list’s Top 5.
