Get Out: Weekend Events Planner May 27-29

Tomorrow starts the long Memorial Day Weekend. If you’re wondering what’s happening around town, here are a few ideas you might want to check out:

When/Where: Stop by Organic Life, 1900 Oak Grove Blvd., between 7 and 11 p.m. on Friday to hear live music and enjoy some coffee and food.

Why Go: Live, family friendly music in a coffee shop environment. The establishment has a children’s play area for little ones, too.

Price: Free to hear performers. Coffee and food do come at a charge.

When/Where: Woof Gang Bakery, 18875 State Road 54, is playing host to this fundraising event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: The CARES rescue will be on hand with some of its available adoption dogs. A $3 donation gets visitors a cup of Nature’s Variety ice cream for their pets. The shop is also offering a $10 special on “pawdicures.” Proceeds benefit CARES.

Price: Free to attend, but donations for treats and services are requested.

When/Where: Saturday night just after sunset at the Land O’ Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O’ Lakes Blvd.

Why Go: Catch “Night at the Museum” on the big screen in the park. Don’t forget to bring along lawn chairs or a blanket.

Price: The movie is free. Snacks and soft drinks are available for $1.

When/Where: Hudson Landscape Nursery, 1918 Green Meadow Drive, in Lutz, May 28-30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: This event offers families a chance to get out and explore seven acres of green farm land loaded with trees.

Price: Free.

When/Where: The SS American Victory, 705 Channelside Drive in Tampa, plays host to this event May 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Children 12 and under can scour the ship on a scavenger hunt that will take them through the cargo holds, radio room, galley, crew cabins and more. After the hunt, kids can enjoy an arts and crafts project and snack.

Price: Half-off admission for kids. The normal rates are $10 for adults; $8 for veterans and seniors over 65; and $5 for children 12 and under.
