Quick Thinking Gets Fire Under Control Fast

A lawn maintenance crew and resident had the blaze out before fire trucks arrived.

When a grass fire broke out last week behind a home in Seven Oaks, those on scene took action right away.

The small fire began when tall grass behind a vacant home ignited as workers from Rosas Lawncare Services were trying to mow it. Seeing a need to act fast, one of the workers ran across the street to enlist help from a neighbor.

Resident Nick Bolli didn’t think twice about helping.

“It’s just something I do,” he explained. “It’s me.”

Bolli said he doesn’t have time to volunteer on a regular basis, so he helps neighbors when he can instead. A few weeks back, he jumped a car for a neighbor in need. Not too long before that, he was on another neighbor’s roof helping clean out a dryer vent.

“I volunteer when it needs to be (done),” he said.

Bolli’s wife, Amanda, said her husband pulled over two hoses, which were then hooked up to another neighbor’s water to put out what she described as a small brush fire.

According to Pasco County Fire Rescue Chief Duncan Hitchcock, his agency received a call about a grass fire at a home at 27321 Roseling Court in Wesley Chapel just before 3 p.m. May 13. By the time they arrived at 3:07, the blaze was out.

The fire, Hitchcock said, was started by a lawn mower.

Hitchcock said no hot spots were found when fire officials arrived.

For his part, Nick said lending a hand in a situation like that just comes naturally.

“We took care of it and I went in the house and that was it,” he said.
