Tampa Police Officer OK after Early Morning Crash

Hillsborough County deputies have arrested a Land O' Lakes man on charges of driving under the influence with property damage.

A Tampa police officer struck this morning at the corner of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and 42nd Street has been treated and released from the hospital.

According to Tampa Police Department spokeswoman Janelle McGregor, Cpl. Robert Clifford was conducting a citizen ride-along while transporting a Baker Act patient to the hospital when his cruiser was involved in a crash.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Bradley Allen Weber, 20, of 6521 Tower Road in Land O’ Lakes in relation to the accident. He was charged with driving under the influence with property damage.

The sheriff’s office said that Clifford was going southbound on Bruce B. Downs around 12:30 a.m. today, Feb. 6, when he was struck by Weber’s Ford pickup truck.

McGregor said Clifford and his ride-along passenger were both taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital following the crash as a “precautionary measure.” Both are OK, she added. The Baker Act patient suffered minor bumps and bruises and has been admitted to Tampa General Hospital.
