Government Offices Close Down For Christmas

In honor of the long holiday weekend, many Pasco County and federal government offices will close to allow their employees to celebrate the season. Most county government offices will shutter their doors until Monday, Dec. 27, but a few places intend to stay open.

The Land O' Lakes Post Office, for example, is one that will greet customers on Christmas Eve, despite early closings in other locations. It will close Christmas Day.

"I decided to go ahead and stay open," said Bill Parrett, post master. "We will close early on New Year's Eve."

Closings throughout Pasco County vary based on the agency. Emergency services, such as the sheriff's office, fire rescue and animal services will remain open for business.

The following is the schedule for other Pasco County offices for Christmas Eve and Christmas:

• Pasco County government offices, including courts and constitutional offices – They will close Dec. 24 and reopen at their normal times Dec. 27.
• Pasco County libraries – They will open Dec. 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will be closed on Christmas Day. Libraries reopen Dec. 28 at their normal times.
• Pasco County recreation complexes – They will be closed Dec. 24-25. County parks, however, will remain open for resident use.
• Pasco County Animal Services Center – This agency will close other than for emergency services Dec. 24-25. The administrative office will reopen Dec. 27 and the animal shelter will reopen Dec. 28 at noon.
• Pasco County Public Transportation – Service will be shut down for the holiday weekend, starting Dec. 24. PCPT plans to resume services Dec. 27.
• Pasco County Resource Recovery Facility and the East Pasco Transfer Station – Both will close to the general public Dec. 24 and will not reopen until Dec. 27. These facilities will be open for commercial haulers Dec. 24, but not on Dec. 25.
